Ali Penko Photography

Artist Biography

Born in Hamilton Ontario, Ali Penko began to see as a photographer at a young age. She was mainly self-taught until she attended the Applied Photography program at Sheridan College in her mid twenties.

Learning her craft through traditional techniques, Penko strives to create as much in camera as possible working primarily with available light. She believes in the truth that comes with capturing a moment in time.

Ms. Penko works for a wide range of clients and is one of a dying breed of photography generalists, excelling at whatever style of photography is required for a project. She is also a writer, contributing to several magazines.

For the last 8 years, Ali has self published a 12 month calendar of curated photographs based on a theme. It is an important project to her that is beginning to catch on…

Her 25 years working as a Red Seal Horticulturist, allowed her to closely observe the changing natural world around her. She is currently working on a unique body of work that allows the viewer to look into the consequences of human’s interference with nature.
