Gayle's Fashions - Rebecca Palmer

Gayle's Fashions

It all began way back in 1983 when Gayle moved back home to Port Alberni from spending a few years studying and working in the US. Gayle's business concept incorporated her two favorite things, aerobics exercise and fashion design.

The first studio opened on Argyle Street where she ran aerobics classes and spent the rest of her time designing and creating shiny spandex ensembles in addition to many other fashions items under the label of "Gear by Gayle".

After two years on Argyle the studio moved up to 4th Ave. and she enjoyed many years of business across from the Little Bavaria Restaurant. Patrons of the restaurant would often enjoy "walking off" their lunch by browsing through the store and fitness facility.

In 1989, Rebecca, Gayle's daughter was born. Gayle came back to work with the baby in tow at 2 weeks old. As Rebecca grew up she developed a strong desire to also work in the fashion industry.

The fashion design department was eventually phased out as Gayle started to bring in ready-to-wear fashions. Adding a dancewear supply division, added a new dimension to the business. By the year 2000 she was ready to let the fitness studio go and within no time, the space was filled with even more fashions for sale!

In 2010 Rebecca returned after studying and working in Vancouver to join Gayle at the shop. Since then, they have enjoyed being in their new location at Kingsway Crossing in the historic harbour area of Port Alberni...right in the heart of Vancouver Island in beautiful British Columbia, Canada.

In 2022 Rebecca took over as owner of this incredible local business. Gayle remains with the business and is thrilled to work for her daughter as the next chapter begins.
